New polls find the majority of nurses and physicians say that health insurer policies are a barrier to patient care. Some commercial health insurers have implemented policies that affect physicians’ and nurses’ ability to practice medicine and provide high quality and timely care. These policies add billions of dollars in unnecessary administrative costs to the health care system while compromising patient care and burning out our caretakers. Commercial health plan abuses must be addressed to protect patients’ health and ensure that medical professionals, not the insurance industry, are making the key decisions in patient care.
