Nine of 10 prescriptions filled in the United States are for generic drugs. With an overwhelming share of the prescription drug market, generic drugs have generated billions of dollars in annual savings for consumers and the US health care system. However, some adults ages 50 and older still do not use generic drugs when they are available. Improving patient awareness and understanding of the value of generic drugs could lead to substantial savings.
