The Narcotic Control Act of 1956 included increased penalties for selling or possessing opiate drugs, cocaine, and marijuana (including the option for the death penalty for selling such drugs to juveniles) and gave the Federal Bureau of Narcotics more powers for enforcement, including warrantless searches.
