This film tells the story of Peter Borik, a man who has tuberculosis but refuses to stay in a sanatorium. Stubborn and refusing treatment, he remains bedridden at home where no precautions are taken against the spread of infection. Borik’s daughter Clara gets married, but soon she becomes infected. Like her father, she refuses to be treated at a sanatorium, leading to her death. The widowed husband tries to convince the remaining daughter, Agnes, to get tested for the disease as well. She eventually seeks treatment, as does the rest of the family.
