This is primarily a demonstration on a cadaver of a high posterior gastroenterostomy. In addition, the end of this presentation shows roentgenograms of a live normal stomach and of one after gastroenterostomy at various stages after a barium meal. The demonstration of the high posterior gastroenterostomy procedure shows the following: upper midline incision; greater omentum opened to view the posterior aspect of the stomach; location and angle of the anastomosis in the classical gastroenterostomy; location of the anastomosis in this type of operation; jejunal loop inflated with air; distorted position of the jejunum in the classical anastomosis; clamps applied showing the jejunal loop only half as wide as that of the stomach but the same length; and intestine opened by a straight incision while an elliptical piece of the stomach is removed to insure permanent stoma.
