The glaucoma syndrome is explained and the parts of the eye involved are illustrated on a model eye. Component parts of the tonometer, functional aspects, and its cleaning and sterilization are shown and explained. The film reviews steps taken to prepare the patient for the test, and most importantly, shows how to use the tonometer on a patient to obtain a reading. Particular emphasis is placed on the measurement of intraocular pressure to detect incipient glaucoma. Similarly, the rationale of including the tonometer test as a regular procedure of the complete physical examination is stressed.
