Dr. Suzanne E. Morris, a speech pathologist, performs a pre-speech evaluation of a 13-month-old infant with cerebral motor disturbance. Dr. Morris asseses the child's potential for speech or some other form of communication. This includes evaluating the child's physical condition, as any problems they may have will affect later speech acquisition. How the child moves, breathes, and cries is significant, as is how they respond to various forms of stimulation.
