This program, part of a series called Neurosurgical Forum, presents a discussion focusing on diagnostic techniques and therapeutic management of acromegaly, a disorder caused by an excess of growth hormone produced by a pituitary tumor. The panel is moderated by Dr. George T. Tindall and includes guest panelists Dr. William F. Collins, Chairman of Neurosurgery at Yale University School of Medicine, and William H. Daughaday, Director of the Metabolism Division of Washington University School of Medicine. After a brief introduction by Dr. Tindall, a case presentation is given by Dr. Scott McLanahan, resident in Neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine, of a 35-year-old male patient who is also present for this discussion. Dr. Collins and Dr. Daughaday provide information about the disease and ways to diagnose and treat it. Near the end of the program, they answer questions from a small audience, which consists of a clinical specialist and four neurosurgical residents from Emory.
