Abstract:
(Critical) This program of vignettes illustrates common psychosocial concerns of the elderly, including paranoia, isolation, loneliness, family relations, and sexuality. No introduction, conclusion, or statement of objectives completes the presentation. Excellent acting, realistically depicting problematical situations, enhances the educational value. Even the sometimes inappropriate behavior of the health professionals is instructive. This program is recommended as useful discussion stimulator. and Included are several simulated sessions with an older woman who suffers from a combination of delirium and depression. Emotions between sessions range from confused, angry, sad, and/or nostalgic. The woman also grapples with her changing sexuality at her stage in life, and often endures judgement and disgust whenever seeking advice. The video also briefly depicts a terminally ill man who feels lonely and depressed at his new rest home.
