Abstract:
(Critical) This program, part of a series on leaders in psychiatry, presents an interview with hypnotist, Dr. Spiegel, which includes a demonstration and discussion of hypnosis. Post-hypnotic sensory motor alterations, spontaneous amnesia and regression to prior age and experience are discussed. Hypnotic induction is depicted without preliminary definition or clarification of the concept, and the mechanics and expected outcomes are not specified. The value and application of hypnosis to medicine is not discussed; this is simply an anecdotal, subjective dialogue on the topic without scientific or educational value. No explanation of objectives is provided in this weak, poorly organized production. The technical quality is acceptable. Aside from entertainment purposes, this program is not recommended for any medical or professional audience.
