Abstract:
The lecture was given at the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia on July 22, 1976. After brief remarks by the department's chairman, Dr. E. W. Hook, Dr. Lois A. Smith presents a case study of a 22-year-old female patient with Chron's disease. Slides of the patient's inner organs are shown, followed by a brief film interview with the patient shortly after surgery. Next, Dr. Sydney A. Barritt gives a lengthy lecture on regional enteritis. He focuses on intestinal manifestations of the disease, physiologic derangements that occur and what can be done about them, and medical and surgical therapy. Afterwards, Dr. Barritt answers questions from doctors in the audience.
