Abstract:
(Critical) Using parental interview format, this program presents an informative review of congenital adrenal hyperplasia syndrome in a female. Clinical features, management, complications, genetic implications, and social and economic effects of the illness on the family are discussed. Slight inconsistency exists in the depth of interview exploration of these factors; social, family history, and developmental issues are only superficially discussed. In addition to providing a good introduction to the syndrome, this program provides a useful introduction to the interview of a mother of a child with a chronic condition. The content is accurate and relatively complete. Written material or a bibliography should be used to complement the information on adrenal hyperplasia. The interview technique presented is basically sound. The program could serve well as the focus of a discussion of the effects of various techniques, mannerisms, and approaches.
