Abstract:
This program is concerned primarily with operative technique. The supplementary materials, however, allow a deeper insight into neck anatomy, disc disease pathophysiology, and the rationale behind common treatment modalities. Both operations are clearly presented with good lighting and focus. The surgeon discusses what he is doing during the actual operation. This results in a choppy, eratic, often unsynchronous sound track. The discussions of air embolism in the sitting position and of dentate ligament section were too brief. The necessity for immediate response in and prevention of air embolus were omitted, as was the use of the G-suit. In general this program will assist the neurosurgeon to refine known techniques. The concise, well-written illustrated booklet and slides enhance the value of this program as a teaching tool for trainees.
