Repairs of aneurysms of the ascending aorta were among the most challenging vascular surgeries. In this presentation, DeBakey and colleagues described their diagnostic and surgical procedures for the operation, and discussed the outcomes of 100 cases done between 1965 and 1974. Notably, the operative and hospital mortality rates on this series of patients were under 10%, far lower than those reported by other surgical teams in those years.
