Fogarty, John Edward, 1913-1967
Luther L. Terry (1911-1985) was a cardiac specialist; he served as assistant director of the National Heart Institute from 1958 to1961, and as Surgeon General from 1961-1965. He is best known for issuing the first official report linking tobacco smoking to lung cancer. As this letter indicates, he was also one of the consultants keeping watch on Fogarty's health.
