In this follow-up to their earlier paper on complement, Heidelberger, Alfred Weil, and Henry Treffers flesh out data they had collected on the amount of antigen, antibody, hemolysin, and complement needed to create effective complement fixation tests, which have become widely used procedures for the detection of antigens or antibodies. During complement fixation, complement is consumed upon reaction with immune complexes bearing complement-fixing antibodies.
