Throughout the early 1930s, Heidelberger continued to work to determine whether antibodies were modified globulin proteins, for which he needed a way to isolate pure antibody. To this end, Heidelberger hired a physiologist named Torsten Teorell to experiment with differing types and quantities of salts added to the precipitin reaction in the hopes that it would help isolate pure antibody.
