Circulation
The last of three publications describing the results of the Veterans Administration Cooperative Study on Antihypertensive Agents. This is the work for which Freis received the Lasker Award. In this report, the group presented the accumulation of data on over five years of research, including several double-blind clinical trials conducted at Veterans Administration Hospitals. They noted a dramatic drop in hypertensive complications--including congestive heart failure, stroke, progressive renal damage, and death--among treated patients.
