This letter was written when those who controlled grants were convinced that there were "tumor specific" antigens, and that cross reactivity with normal tissue made antibody therapy not possible. Their thinking was "inside the box", not able to think outside of any present (not established) theory. Dr. Albert Sabin at that time was supported of what turned out to be a correct view of the tumor antigens.
