Lederberg's testimony (the first of two times he spoke) was part of a series of hearings before the subcommittee on a joint resolution (sponsored by Senator Walter Mondale) for the establishment of a national commission on the ethical and social implications of health science research and development. The hearings ran periodically from March 7 - April 2, 1968.
