World Health Day, observed each year on 7 April, marks the anniversary of the coming into force of the Constitution of the World health Organization in 1948. The them chosen for 1962 is "The Prevention of Blindness", and the object of World Health Day is to tell people how much preventable blindness exits in the world and what can be done to stop needless loss of sight. Self-Supporting Citzens. Five centuries ago in France, Valentin Italy opened the first school for the blind and affirmed his conviction that the skillful training, blind people could become educated and self-supporting citizens. That school led to a revloution in the lives of countless blind people and to the establishment of blind welfare systems all over the world. At Phansa, India, an agricultural and rural centre had been created for the rehibilitation of young people. There they are taught farming and need no longer be entirely dependant on their sighted fellow men.
