Lindberg: What clinical areas were ones thatyou focused on? Packard: On stroke we funded a very innovativeprogram that was developed at the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosacalled Reality Orientation. In brief, there were not only signs everywherethat said, "Today is Monday, November the 11th,"but everybody that worked on the ward in these geriatric wardsor the nursing homes would say, "Mr. Jones, your bed has the redbed cover. Today isMonday, November 11th." It proved to reduce the need forsedatives for these old patients. The turnover of the nurses'aides and other personnel dropped way down. People enjoyedworking there. That program was used all over the statesand still is.
