PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE AND REFER TO PERSONAL Medical Director Lawrence Kolb Medical Officer in Charge U. S. Public Health Service Hospital Lexington, Kentucky Sir: A copy of Reprint No. 1463 from the Public Health Reports, entitled "Experimental Addiction of Animals to Opiates" reproduced by the Multilith apparatus at your station, has recently reached this office. In this connection you are hereby instructed not to distribute any of the copies of this reprint which have been made at your station. The matter of reproducing publications prepared by the Government Printing Office by means of your Multilith machine is fraught with all sorts of potentialities for embarrass- ment to the Service. The recopying of the outside cover on such publications is particularly dangerous and mst not be done. It would probably be advisable not to directly reproduce any work of the Government Printing Office on the Multilith machine but instead to retype it before copying. By direction of the Surgeon General. Respectfully, WH? 7 v) rteadenrees Assistant Surgeon General Division of Mental Hygiene NEL: BWF
