€ € TREASURY DEPARTMENT UNITED STATES PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE OFFICE OF MEDICAL OFFICER IN SUPERVISORY CHARGE PARIS, FRANCE EUROPEAN ACTIVITIES March 18, 1931. AMERICAN EMBASSY, 5 RUE DE CHAILLOT : Senior Surgeon Lawrence Kolb, U. Ss Public Health Service, care American Consulate General, Dublin - Irish Freee State. Dear Dr. Kolbs I am sending to you instructions to proceed to Southampton in accordance with your letter of March 135th. My interpretation of your letter is that you will ask further instructions at a later date. I have just returned to my office after a visit to Greece and find the usual pile of correspondence. I contemplate making the trip of the British Isles as soon as possible after April the lst, unless something now unforeseen occurs. This afternoon I have to go to Cherbourg for a couple of days. When I return I shall make a strenious effort to clear the desk and will be able to tell you more definitely when I will be at Dublin. I note that you wish to return to the States after your three year tour of duty in Europe and I shall recommend accordingly. I also note that you do not believe that it will be necessary to replace you in the mental work. It seems to me that the office assistant in Southampton is unsatisfactory, since it appears that we cannot depend upon her to make proper observations of the mental work she does among the English. I suggest that you discuss with Dr. Halpin the question of replacing her with a more competerit assistant. John McMullen | Medical Director In Supervisory Charge European Activities
