A Little BOOK OF Rare Receipts For the CURE of SEVERAL DISTEMPERS, VIZ, The King’s Evil, Stone, Chollick, Black and Yellow Jaundice, Piles, Ague, Worms, Black Thrush in Childrens Mouths, Breakings out in their Infancy, Rickets, Small-Pox, the Itch, &c. Set forth for the Benefit of all Poor Christians, By Giles Parsons, Printed for A. Bettesworth, at the Red-Lyon on London- Bridge. (3) A Little Book, &c. This is to Satisfie all People, both Young and Old, that here is a Certain Cure for the Kings Evil; besides several other Receipts for Several Distempers, which I shall set forth for the Good of all Christians, both Rich and Poor. For Curing of the Evil. FIRST, you must get the quantity of two handfuls of Pilewort Roots in the May Month, and Wash them very Clean, and beat them into a Mash, and boil them in the (4) quantity of half a Pound of fresh or washt Butter, until it is half boiled away, and then take it up, and strain it through a fine Cloath, and anoint the Places where the Evil is, and it will certainly take away the Swell- ing, and make a perfect Cure of the Wounds in a short time; and take you the quantity of a handful of those Roots, and dry them, and beat them to a Pow- der, then take the quantity of as much as will lye upon a Six- pence, for Nine Mornings in half a pint of Small-beer, and put some of thofe Roots upon a string, and hang them about your Neck, un- til they drop off, wherein, with God's help, you will find a cer- tain Cure for the King's Evil. (5) A Certain Cure for the Stone, Chollick, &c. You must get two or three Heads of Garlick, and for a Man or Woman, they must take five and twenty Cloves of Garlick, and pound them, and let them steep in the quantity of half a Pint of the best Ale out of the Tun, and let it sleep about a quar- ter of an hour, and Drink it off in a Morning Fasting, for four or five Mornings together, and you will find (with God's help) a certain Cure for the Stone, and for a Child, they need take but ten Cloves after the same manner; and get you the value of a Half peny-worth of Oyl of Turpentine, and take Six drops in the quantity of half a pint of A 3 (6) Small Beer,luke - warm, for fix Mornings together; and that is a perfect Cure for the Stone, Chollick, or Wind Chollick. A Certain Cure for the Black or Yellow Jaundice. Get the value of half a pint of New Milk, and boil it, and Turn it with one Spoonful of Tar, and make a Posset of it, and sweeten it with White Su- gar, and drink it off two Morn- ings; whereof you Shall find (with God's help) a certain Cure for the Black and Yellow Jaun- dice. (7) A Certain Cure for the Piles, that will help them in Eight and Forty Hours, with a perfect Cure, either for Man or Woman Get you some Roman Viterol- stone, the quantity of a small Nut, and dissolve it in the quan- tity of two Spoonfuls of Spring Water, and Wash your Secret Places with it, where the Piles are, it makes a certain Cure for Man or Woman, in Eight and Forty Hours. A Certain Cure for the Ague, for Man, Woman, or Child. Grate the quantity of half a Nutmeg, and as much more of Roman Allum, and put it in, and mix it with one spoonful of (8) Vinegar; and take twice before your Ague comes, wherein you shall find a certain Cure for the Ague, A Certain Cure for the Ague for Children, that their Stomachs will not bear the other Medicine, Take you a Salt White Her- ring, and Split him in the Mid- dle, and lay them to the Bottoms of their Feet for the space of Seven Days and Nights; where- in you shall find a certain Cure for the Ague for Children, A Certain Cure for the Worms, in Men, Women, or Children, Take a small quantity of Bares Foot, and dry it to a Powder, and take as much at a time as (9) will lie upon a Six-pence, and mix it with a little Honey, and let them take it for two Morn- ing Fasting, and it will Destroy the Worms in either Man, Wo- man, or Child, if they have ne- ver so many; or if you can get a Bulls Gall, and hang it up, and dry it in the Chimney, and take you some of the Gall, and spread it upon some sheeps Lea- ther, of the Fleshey side, and lay it upon the Navel of either Man, Woman, or Child; that will Destroy the Worms, and bring them from you, if you have Thousands in your Body. A Certain Cure for the Black Thrush in Young Childrens Mouths. You must get Twelve-penny- worth of the Oyl of Almonds B (10) and as much Sugar-Candy, as you can dissolve in that quantity of Oyl of Almonds, and rub the Infants Mouth with it, wherein you shall find a certain Cure for the Black Thrush. A certain Cure for Young Children breaking out in their Infancy, if they be all over like a Leper. Take half a pound of fresh Mut- ton Suet, and about a quarter of a pint of Tar, and boyl them to- gether, and anoint the places where it is broken out, and in it you will find a certain Cure for that Distemper. A certain Cure for Ricketey Chil- dren. You must get the Roots of (11) Male-Fern, and the Apothecary will tell you what it is, and dry the Roots of them in an Oven, and beat them to a Powder, and fist it very fine, and put the quan- tity of as much as will lie upon a Six-pence, in either Milk, or Broth, or Beer, what they take; and that will certainly Cure them in a Month or Six Weeks time. A Drink to Cure the Small- Pox, Purples, or Measles, Make Posset-Ale, take the Curd off, and boyl therein one hand- ful of Red Fennel; when it is well boyled, strain it, and put thereto the quantity of an Nut- meg of fine Treacle, Setwall, English Saffron; being all mingled together, give it the Patient to drink Warm. (12) A certain Cure for the Itch. Get you half a pound of fresh Butter, and an handful of Red Dock Roots, and scrape them, and Boyl the Scrapings in the Butter, then take half an Ounce of Flowr of Brimstone, and Boyl them together, and take it up, and strain it, and anoint your Joynts with it every Evening, and you will find a certain Cure for that Distemper.
