Dear Congressman:

On March 9, 1962, you addressed a letter to the President
urging that funds be provided in the 1963 budget for a
National Environmental Health Center to be located in the
Washington, D.C., area.

Since that date, I and others on the White House staff
have consulted with you on various occasions with respect
to this matter, The purpose of this letter is to confirm the
understandings which have been reached between us. It is
our intention to include funds for site acquisition and
planning of the National Environmental Health Center, to
be located in the Washington area, in the first consolidated
1963 supplemental request to the House, We understand
that this meets with your approval and that you have cleared
the matter with the Chairman of the Supplemental Subcommittee,
Congressman Albert Thomas,
