48tii CONGRESS, 2d Session. H. RES. 304. IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. December 19, 1884. Read twice, referred to tlie Committee on Appropriations, and ordered to be printed. Mr. McAdoo introduced the following joint resolution: JOINT RESOLUTION To appropriate a sum of money for distribution and expenditure, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, to pre- vent the entrance and spread of cholera in the cities surround- ing the port of New York. Whereas in the light of past experience it is entirely probable that this country will be visited during the coming summer by the cholera, now epidemic in certain parts of Europe; and Whereas the port of New York, from its extensive communication with the countries of Europe, is more liable to contagion than any other part of our coast, and its prevention there may prevent its getting a foothold in this country: Therefore, 1 Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives 2 of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 8 That the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars be 4 appropriated, to he distributed by the Secretary of the Treas- 5 ury, and expended, under his direction, or as much thereof as 6 he may deem necessary, by the proper local authorities of December 19, 1884.—Read twice, referred to the Commit- tee on Appropriations, and ordered to be printed.
