By direction of the President, the following assignments are hereby 
made: 
1.. Major General H. W. Halleck, U. S. Army, to the command of 
the Department of Virginia. 
11.. Major General E. O. C. Ord, U. S. Volunteers, to the command 
of the Department of the South, relieving Major General Q. A. Gill- 
more, U. S. Volunteers, who, upon being relieved, will report to the 
Adjutant General of the Army, at Washington, for orders.
