Jany 17 1914 Dear Alan I think there used to be discussion as to the existence on conditions of time and place. Space serves to remain but time seems to have vanished. As I told you originally I am not willing to put any payments in the form of loans. Among modern crimes I place lending money and I absolve you from any obligation to repay. I did not wish to hamper you in that way. I wished to help you and not to load you with a weight. Of course you will be free to make a present to me if you want to by and by, and if it then does not worry or hurt. Yours truly Arthur T. Lyman
