March 25, 1931 Dear Dr. Crichton-Miller: I presented at length last week at the conference of the officers of the Foundation the proposal from the Tavistock Square Clinic. I am very sorry to disappoint you with the news that they voted to decline the application. I think I appreciate how much this will disappoint some of your colleagues and I want to avoid any inference being drawn from this action which might be interpreted as criticism or lack of understanding of the value of the work you are doing and will continue to do. I can only thank you for the way in which you helped me to present your case as well as I could, and express my personal hope that your enthusiasm for the work of the clinic will continue in spite of a disappointment I regretfully know to be considerable. Yours sincerely,
