Kryssarvagen 10, Nasby Park, den 5/8/60 Dear Miss Levine! I now have a Swedish teacher and have been informed that the above is the correct way to start a letter. Perhaps it is all right here, and it is convenient, but it probably would not sit any better after coming home than the way we have all had to learn to eat with a knife and fork. The latter is much sport, but I can see a crisis coming when we try to break the children of piling everything on the back of the fork, meat, potatoes, vegetable, and lifting the whole immense load to the face with the fork upside down. I can really give a demonstration! I have also in hand a letter from: Dr. Ernest Gardner, Professor and Chairman Department of Anatomy Wayne State Univ. College of Medicine 1401 Rivard Street Detroit 7, Michigan. He is chairman of a committee to find a chairman of the Department of Surgery there, since Charles Johnston died. I informed him I was too interested in what we are doing in Brooklyn to think about going somewhere else, but suggested that the school would do well to consider Dr. Karlson, who certainly has the attributes to do a fine job. Would you please send him right off Karlson's curriculum and list of publications? Many thanks. Three of the younger generation are home after a month at camps with tutors, and the rules have been set up the no one can use English in the house on penalty of forfeiture of 5 ore. It has been hair-raising at first, but the people on the radio do not talk so fast any more. A check for one month's rent of the Pelham house, 275 dollars, was sent directly to me and I have sent it to the bank by this same mail. The receipt may come to you. I have started at the hospital and find it most interesting. They are beginning to take it for granted that I can understand them sometimes, but the language is the least of my troubles. In any case, it's so gratifying that I feel almost guilty being here. Am off to Norway next week. Have had my slides redone to fit European projectors, and everything is fine except some of the ideas. Have sold folks here on pursuit of my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so I hope there is something in it. I hope you have taken some vacation and gotten away from the heat. My best to you and the girls. Sincerely, Clarence Dennis P.S. Other side P.S. Dr. Karlson wrote a note to me asking my opinion about proposing Dr. Gliedman for a Markle Scholarship. I had been wondering also about this and think it is a good idea and that he should be a very strong candidate. Would you pass the word on to him, please? I do not have his vacation address. Thanks.
