February 12, 1990 Dear Dr. Nirenberg, We, the organizers of ICONDSS, 1988, are planning to hold a second International Conference at Goa, about one and half years from now, between September 22-28, 1991. The theme of this International conference will be 'Principles of Design and Function in the Nervous System'. The conference is being organized to bring together leading scientists in the field of neurobiology to present and discuss their work in relation to the design and function of the nervous system including the sensory systems. Interdisciplinary studies on nervous systems drawing upon the techniques of anatomy, biochemistry, developmental biology, genetics, immunology, molecular biology, physiology, tissue culture and behavioral biology would be encouraged. This conference aims at inspiring the younger scientists to visualize a wider horizon in the field of neurobiology. Scientists working with specialized biological systems will be motivated to compare their results with those obtained in other systems in an effort to deduce common principles. Approximately 120 participants from international and national institutions are expected to attend the conference, the proceedings of which will be published. We would be delighted to have you as a Member of the International Scientific Advisory Council for the Conference and would like your opinion regarding the list of the participants, the scientific programme and the other organizational aspects of the conference. Since we are initiating the necessary steps now, we would be happy to hear from you as early as possible about your concurrence to be a Member of the International Scientific Advisory Council of the Conference. With regards, Yours sincerely R. Naresh Singh Convenor
