In going over my old mail -- I have had quite a pile up in the aftermath
of sudden trips ~- I found that I had not yet responded to your letters of
August and September about the nomination of Dennis Watson for the Regents
Professor. TT

I have enjoyed the recollection of Dennis as a good friend during the
time we were at Wisconsin together; however, I have to say that I have rather
Jost touch with his scientific work since 1959. Is there still some point
to my writing a letter? If so, please just send me a brief bibliographic
resume. Then, I could write a far more persuasive letter than if I simply
relied upon positive sentiments. I suspect there really will be no problem
about your getting him through even without this help, but if the matter is
not yet moot, by all means please let me know.
