Dear Dr. Lederberg:

Enclosed is a copy of some material describing the format and
coding algorithms used by the Chemical Abstracts Service as
part of their registry system. I will inform you at a later
date as to the possibility that the magnetic tape files of
encoded chemical structures might be available.

In addition, I am enclosing a copy of a position paper which
characterizes the type of contract program we hope to mount.

I will plan to call you in the next few weeks to discuss whether
there might be interest at Stanford in participating.
