December 22, 1975 Dr. William C. Cray Vice Presitdent Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association 1155 Fifteenth Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20005 Dear Dr. Cray, This {s to ask you whether the PMA has, or could make available, a bibliography of journal articles and books that pertain to drug policy analysis. Besides my own personal interest in this field, and its bearing on my teaching responsibilities in health policy heaeeat Stanford, this material would also be quite useful in other contexts, for example my consultations with the appropriate divisions at the World Health Organization. I already receive regular mailings from the PMA with respect to your own positions on a number of current issues. What I had in mind in my present request would be a more comprehensive bibliography that would bear on all sides of the kinds of questions that are pertinent to the regulation of the pharmaceutical industry and of its products. Even though, as is inevitable in any such controversial area, a certain fraction of the 4iterature will be hostile to the positions that you take, I still believe that your interest in seeking a rational approach to these matters would be furthered if you could help furnish this kind of background resource material. In parallel with this request I am going to ask MEDLARS to do a search along somewhat similar lines and I will, of course, be ahppy to share the results of that with you if this is of any interest to you. Sincerely yours, Joshua Lederberg Professor of Genetics JL/rr
