My in- terest in medical genetics stems from a family I first began studying in 1961 which demonstrated a hereditary resistance to anticoagulant drugs. This is the first described kindred of such a disorder and is apparently the first description of hereditary resistance to the biologic action of any drug. This year I have discovered a second family with an equal degree of resistance; so far, I have found the resistance in i1 members of the family. As you can see from the enclosed reprint, I have been breeding rats at Stanford with Dr. Judith Pool of the De- partment of Medicine that also have a hereditary resistance to anticoagulant drugs. : ey A77lay 9 I am a member of the clinical faculty of the School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine. For personal refer- ences you may consult Dr. Avram Goldstein, Dr. Sumner Kalman, Dr. Judith Pool, Dr. Peter Rowley, or Dr. Lawrence Schneiderman. Hoping there will be room for me in the classroom, I am Very truly yours,-, +5 LEED op bey Robert A. o'reilly, A.p., F,A.C.P. Chairman ‘ Department of Medicine RAO'R/mld Encl. oy Ne
