NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES-——————-— JOHN T. EDSALL SECTION OF BIOCHEMISTRY THE BIOLOGICAL LABORATORIES A HARVARD UNIVERSITY November UW, 1961 16 DIVINITY AVENUE CAMBRIDGE 36, MASSACHUSETTS Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford Univ. Medical School Palo Alto, California Dear Dr. Lederberg: I am delighted to hear from Dr. Hugh Dryden that you have decided to transfer from the Botany to the Biochemistry Section of the National Academy of Sciences. Naturally you will be very welcome among the biochemists, and I hope that we will make you feel at home. I enclose some material for your information about the two ballots which have already been taken this fall among the members of the Biochemistry Sectione In the first Caucus Ballot we considered 1) candidates, and as a re- sult of the vote then taken the list was narrowed to 7 candidates in the In- formal Ballot, plus Michael Doudoroff who has been proposed as an intersectional nominee by members of the Biochemistry and Botany Sections. I am now preparing a statement which is to be sent out with the Formal Ballots; this will probably go out to all members of the Section about the end of this week. I enclose copies of the biographical material and selected lists of bibliographies for the candidates who are now under consideration in the In- formal and Formal Ballots. I hope I have provided you with all the material which is likely to be useful for you as a member of the Section, now and in the immediate future. I may have easily overlooked something, however, and I do hope you will tell me if you are lacking in some kind of information that you would like to have. Yours sincerely, John T. Edsall Chairman Best wishes, JTE/11w EncSe
