I have not been aware that birds have shown any unique response to ethanol ingestion and I will certainly look into any material which has been obtained in this area. For your information I am enclosing a review of some aspects of behavioral pharmacology of alcohol prepared by my colleague, Dr. Nancy K. Mello. This review contains some material which is relevant to the development of an experimental animal model of alcohol addiction. I am also enclosing some reprints relating to development of addiction in laboratory animals. I greatly appreciate your thinking of us and I am looking forward to seeing you at the next NIH Council meeting. With best wishes for a Happy New Year. Sincerely yours, Jak H. Mendelson, M.
