THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN Laboratory of Genetics Genetics Building MADISON, WISCONSIN 53706 May 25, 1967 Department of Medical Genetics Department of Genetics School of Medicine College of Agriculture Dr. Joshua Lederberg t/o Professor Luigi Cavalli-Sforza Instituto Genetica Via Sant 'Epifanio 14 Pavia, Italy - Dear Joshua: | have consulted with the University Administration regarding the acceptance of your Nobel Prize Medal. This is a noble gesture and is much appreciated by the University (and by me). The University agrees to have the medal appraised for its "market value". Bob Taylor suggests that, if you find this suitable, there be a short presentation in the President's office at 2:30 on the afternoon of June 5. This would be following the noon luncheon that you already know about. There would be an opportunity for you to make or distribute what- ever statement you like to the press, photographers, and TV. You needn't reply now; the arrangement could be modified, or cancelled, after you arrive in Madison. Ann and | have made two tentative social engagements. One is to have the Zieburs, who are in Madison this year, for dinner Sunday noon and a. group of your friends from the genetics group for Sunday evening, both at our house. Aside from these -- which are subject to change or cancel lation, of course -- we have involved you in nothing other than the regular com- mencement ceremonies. It will be good to see you; I'm looking forward to it eagerly. Sincerely, James F. Crow JFC:Ic cc: Mrs. Edna Forsberg Robert Taylor P.S. Say hello to Lucca, Barai, et al. P.P.S.
