I was most interested in your letter of November 11 and find
that I really have no information about the curious gap in
pursuit of understanding surface forces in the lung that appears
to have occurred from 1929 to 1957.

I am enclosing a review article that highlights some of the
historic features but not the ones you are seeking. I would
guess that Jere Mead might be a good person to consult, and
I certainly would be most interested in anything you learn.
