July 12, 1968 AIR MAIL James F. Crow, Ph.D., Professor of Medical Genetics The University of Wisconsin Laboratory of Genetics Genetics Building Madison, Wisconsin 53706 Dear Jim: I received a letter from Josh today and am enclosing a copy of the symposium as it now stands. If Arno is going to chair the evening session it may be better to get someone else to introduce the afternoon speakers (Stern, Neel, Beadle, or Graham). Thanks for all you have done, and I'm certainly delighted to see you as an active participant. —— knowing you have a message to share concerning mutagenesis. By the way, I have long felt a need for a term which means “chromosome breaking agent" which is quite cumbersome compared — to the words mutagen, teratogen, carcinogen, recombinogen, and leukemogen. What do you think of "clastogen"? "Chromosomoclastogen" would be more accurate but would not sound as good. If you could use the word when discussing agents which cause chromosome breakage, feel free to adopt it. See you in September. Sincerely, Margery W. Shaw, M.D. 7-12-68 MWS: ds
