1 am very happy to have an opportunity to comment on th= significance
of the research belng done under Dr. Stocker's direction In. the Gulness-
Lister unfit. Or. Stocker Is one of the most Incisive workers In the fleld
of microblal genetics today. He and his colleagues have made Important
contributions to the genetics of flagellar antigens fn Salmonella, to the
contro! of the somatic antigens In this group of bacteria, and to the blology
of the colicins. He Is, as you know, a dedicated and Industrious research
worker and also one who has Inspired a very high level of performance by
his col leagues.

We are certainly looking forward eagerly to his brief visit next
Spring when we hope to get some more persona! benefit from his unique
qualifications and experlence.
