September 3, 1955 Dr. E. D. Rosenblum Department of Miorobiology University of Texas Dallas 19, Texas Dear Gene: I will send you som reprints when we do a regular mailing in a few weeks. With Pseydomonas fluorescens, a few yeas# ago I made some auxotréphs, and diauxotrophs, withba regime of UV, penicillin and replica plating. These were all prepared from one of Staniesrés strains. They gave no evidence of crossing after mixed culture. No special problems in making the mtats. We had hoped to extend the search to testa from phage-mediated trans- duction, However, none of our own strains appeared to be lysogenic on any of the authors as indicatora, and Jacob found no cross-reactions between the strains I had sent him ani his P. aeruginosa phageed 2 one of my students is interested sometime, I hope to make a more exfensive search for different phages and different strains, but there 1s nothing in the widd right now, and until then, I do not plan to make any further public comment. Loutit had a lot of trouble getting auxotrophs from aeruginosa, I hope you have beéter luck. Yours sincerely, i f Soghtid Ataderber g f t : } L
