Columbia Guibersity College of Physicians and Surgeons 630 WEST 168TH STREET NEW YORK 32, N. Y. DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY June 12, 1959 Dr. Josiah Lederberg Professor of Genetics Stanford University California My dear Josiah: I have a vacancy on my staff which I would like to fill with someone having training in the general area in which you work, This Department, as you know, is rather strong in physical biochemistry and in intermediary metabolism, but really has no one working in biochemical genetics. If I found the right person, I could offer him a position as either Assistant or Associate Porfessor, depending upon his general qualifications. The salary for this position comes from University funds. One of the drawbacks of the posi- tion is the fact that I cannot offer the man very much laboratory space. However, we are in the process of getting a new research building, and in three years more space will be available, I need a man who has his own built in self-starter. Further, I would like to have someone who is more interested in biochemical genetics than in old fashioned classical genetics, If you have such a person in your vicinity or if you know of one, I would appreciate hearing from you. With kindest regards. Yours sincerely, D, Rittenberg DR: gw N 2gt,! 7H faa ‘gq the
