Latest news:

(1) attended bacterial metabolésm conference at OR - nothing of
interest (genetics mentioned once)
(2) scuttlebutt from phage group at OR says Hershey and
TF Anderson have:
(a) electron mike pictures of phage injecting innards
thru tail into bacterium
(bo) most, if not all protein, is left outside bacterium
when phage infects; that is, only nucleic acid
injected
(3) ‘the chances of my getting a PHS fellowship are, estimating
by operations analysis (to wit - good guess) one in 10 to
1 in 20.
(4) Is there a possibility of getting funds from the Markle
foundation? I know of no advertized fellowships but
Deacon says Luria was here on a Markle circa 1941,
(5) he SAB proceedings list:
(a) transduction abstract
(b>) Werner Braun measuring rates oi recomb in coli in vitro
and in vive - he wrote for e reprint I note by my filed.
If worst comes to worst I might approach him for a job
and try to pull the same trick as the OR boys (namely,
work on what you wish to but give lip service to the
contract job). :
(6) It looks as if I'll take the phage course this summer - saw
Gus Doermann at OR who's giving it.

Serology Antibiotics and Viruses - seems the virus stuff had never been
done before - akl this while McVeigh takes off for Boston.
