December 25, 1958 Dr. Julian Mack Science Attache U. S. Embassy Stockholn Dear Julians I was delighted to hear of your appointment, and I know it will be a happy and fruitful term, both for the U.S. and for Sweden, not to mention yourself. We have been getting to know Stockholm surprisingly well, having visited it twice this year (in August for the Microbiology Congress, and again, as you know, earlier this month). We will also be there agtm again, as I have deferred my Nobel lecture until May 31, 1959 (which happens to be the commencement day for the M.D,s at the Karolinska Institute.) The main point of my writing 1e as well summarized in the enclosed corres- pondence. Fron his previous work, Caspersson does have a rather unique orfenta~ tgion for automated chemical microanalysis, and there may be some real use in establishing liabson between him (to the extent of his interest) and operational planning for space missile experiments. By the time you get this, we should be séttled at Stanford (Dept. Genetics). ftuuka Between April 1 - June 30 + we will be based at the Institute of Genetios at Pavia, Italy. Dr. George Klein, at the Karolinkka, will have our up to date itinerary, Allis best wishes, and a prosperous new year, Sincerely, Joshua Lederberg (eV Oly 2
