LOUIS 830, MISBOURI DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY May 28, 1964 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics Stanford University.Medical School Palo Alto, California Dear Dr. Lederberg: As you certainly know, Dr. Silvio Varon came in .the late fall to St. louis to work with us. I have enjoyed my association with him and I came to deeply appreciate his sharp grasp of bio- logical problems and his original thinking about possible new approaches to the study of the nerve growth factor. A position of Associate Professor has been offered to him by Washington University and I had hoped to make my association with him a permanent one. However, as Silvio himself will tell you, the limited facilities in our laboratories in St. Louis will not permit us, in the next two years, to carry on a thoroughly biochemical study of the nerve growth factor. I will be pleased if Silvio would extend our work on this factor in your laboratory since my main interest is to see this problem developed as vigorously as possible. Of course it will be your and Silvio's decision if and to what extent this fits in your plans. Cordially yours, Jy tk. Lev: - -) we crAe Rita Levi-Montalcini RIM: 1tf
