Dear Dr. Lederberg:

Thank you very much for your letter
of October y4th and the 3 cultures. I can
confirm that S.W. 520 is biochemically a
Setyphi strain with the antigenic formula
IX,XII:iz-, that S.W. 662 is biochemmi-
cally a Sopara typhi B strain with the an-
tigenic formula IV,V,XII:g,p:-, and that
S.W. 670 is biochemically a S.typhi strain
with the antigenic formula IX,XIIsb:-,

Until now the strains are monophasic,
but I am observing them further. These are
really very interesting cultures, please
receive my best congratulations.

I am hoping you will publish it soon
and will send me a reprint.

With regard to nomenclature I would
prefer to designate such new sero-types by
their antigenic formula and their number:

SeoW. 520 = IX,XII:iz:=.
