Dear Dr. Lederberg:

Thank you very much for your letter of
October qth and the 3 announced cultures which
I shall test as soon as they arrive.

To improve and to simplify the practical
diagnosis, it would be useful to have hybrids
which contain one of the rare O antigens (XL,
XLI, XLII or XLIII) and one of the following
monophasic H antigens:

1,v or lww-r-yrgz-* zy and Zo9°

If you should want to start this work, I
can give you the necessary strains and sera.
Further I am ready to control the produced
hybrids and to prepare diagnostic sera with
such strains. If this work should be succes-
ful, I propose to publish it together.
