Your letter of July 1 received,

Sorry you cannot consider attending our Symposium ,

Coordination of the latter with the Stockholm Congress has been
considered, but had to be given up for several reasons.

I shall most probably shift the date of our Symposium to an earlier
date in March. This would make it possible for anybody to take part
in our and Hollaender's Symposium,

Personnally, I would be delightedto attend the Gatlinburg meeting,
but a) do not yet know when I will be busy with courses next year;
b) have received no invitation,

Concerning Wright's application for a french Government Fellowship :
I will certainly gladly intervene directly at the Directeur des
Relations Culturelles. In order to do this, I should like to have
carbons of Wright's letters both to him and to the French Embassy
in Canberra, Please ask him to air-mail these as_ soon as possible :
August is a dead month here and I should therefore intervene imme-
diately. I hope the carbons will tell me, among other things, the
exact dates of the projected visit,
